Medical check up at Leh hospital is mandatory for all clients going for Chadar trek on third day of their arrival in Leh. You will get a certificate from the hospital which will get checked at Chilling – starting point of Chadar Trek.
1. Can we visit Leh Ladakh in winters?
Going to Leh Ladakh in the winter from November to March is possible. It will be a great fun for Adventure lovers and photography specially. Flights are only the options. Daily flights are available from Delhi to Leh and return.
Both the Leh-Manali Highway and Leh-Srinagar Highway remain closed for nearly six months between November till May due to heavy snowfall.
December – January – February and March will be coldest and you may expect the temperature in minus around 5 – 10 in day time and minus 15 – 25 D Celsius in the nights.
2. What is the climate in Leh Ladakh in winters?
It get started cold from first week of October in Ladakh and nights get freezing. December – January – February and March will be coldest and you may expect the temperature in minus around 5 – 10 in day time and minus 15 – 25 D Celsius in the nights. Need central heated rooms for your stay from Mid oct to Mid April
3. Can we get the hotels in Leh Ladakh in winters?
Yes, hotels have central heating facility is open in winters too. Approx less than 20 hotels may be available in Leh. You may not a hotel in other places of Ladakh. Though you have possibility to stay with natives at their houses.
4. Will all the places will be open in Ladakh in winters?
Yes most of the places are open even border side locations will be open to travel. Though you might check with the weather report and your travel agent to visit Nubra valley – Pangong Tso Lake – Tso Moriri Lake and Dah and Hanu villages.
Leh to Kargil road normally open round the year.
5. Can we visit Nubra Valley in Ladakh in winters?
Yes you can visit Nubra Valley round the year. Though it depends snow condition at Khardungla pass. Some time you may get stuck at Khardungla pass due to heavy snow. Please take the advice of your local agent before you visit to Nubra valley
6. Can we stay overnight in Nubra Valley in winters?
Yes you can stay in Nubra Valley. Some time few hotels which has central heating facility are open in winters. Though home stay is always possible. You can avoid the cold with wooden bukhari inside the room
7. Can we visit Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh in winters?
Yes you can visit Pangong Tso Lake round the year. Though it depends snow condition at Chang La pass. Some time you may get stuck at Changla La pass due to heavy snow. Please take the advice of your local agent before you visit to Pangong Tso Lake.
8. Can we stay overnight in Pangong Tso Lake in winters?
Yes you can stay in Pangong Tso Lake. Only home stay possible. You can avoid the cold with wooden bukhari inside the room. Tangse may be good option to stay at instead of spagmic village.
9. Can we visit Tso Moriri Lake in Ladakh in winters?
Yes you can visit Tso Miriri Lake. Though it depends snow condition. Some time you may get stuck en route due to heavy snow. Please take the advice of your local agent before you visit to Tso Moriri Lake
10. Can we stay overnight in Tso Moriri Lake in winters?
Yes you can stay in Tso Moriri Lake. Only home stay possible. You can avoid the cold with wooden bukhari inside the room.
11. Can we get the ATM in Leh Ladakh even in winters?
Yes you have enough ATM in Leh, State bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank , K & K Bank are few of them.
12. What kind of celebration we may have for Christmas and New Year in Ladakh?
You may not expect the Gala Dinner and other arrangements for Christmas & New Year in Ladakh. In Ladakh Lossar festival is most important which is New Year celebration for Ladakhi people. It may continue for more than a week by visiting relatives and friends.
13. Can we take the children below 5 years in Ladakh in winters?
As per our experience we may suggest not to take the children below 5 years. Specially November to March. Temperature will be in minus and very cold out side
14. Which mobile networks are available in Ladakh in winters?
BSNAL and JIO should work in Leh. Jio may not work out of Leh city.
15. Can we get the WI FI and internet in hotel in Ladakh in winters?
Yes you can expect internet and WI Fi in your hotel. Though this is not 100% reliable. Though you can communicate for urgent requirements.
16. Are restaurants open in Leh in winters?
Yes you can find many restaurants in Leh town at various locations. You can have all kind of North Indian food and Tibetan food.
